On September 26th, the building freeze in the settlements will end at exactly 6:06 p.m. Likud MK Danny Danon says the second this time is reached, they will break ground in Judea and Samaria. He will not allow the opponents to extend the freeze any longer than they already have.

Danon told the Jerusalem Post that “opponents of the freeze are already planning a large ceremony in Samaria for that moment, complete with tractors that will break ground for new homes.”

In addition to Danny Danon of Likud, the heads of political parties such as, Yisrael Beitenu, Shas, United Torah Judaism and Habayit Hayehudi have always been strongly opposed to extending the freeze later than September 26th. They believe the settlements of Judea and Samaria are key to Israel’s independence and that Israel must maintain it’s position regarding these areas.

Hebron est un lieu très riche de part son histoire religieuse. Hebron fut au cœur du tension extrême dans le conflit Israélo-Palestinien due à l’importance historique de la ville et de ses sites célèbres telle que la Grotte de Patriarches. Le Likud de France est allé visiter Hebron le 10 aout pour affirmer son soutien aux pionniers de la région et pour venir se recueillir sur les endroits sacrés.

Plus de 700 Français Sionistes guidé par Jacques Kupfer, Chef de la Direction de Likud-France et son fils Benjamin Kupfer. Cette expérience unique a bouleversée les participants et une très forte émotion était perceptible parmi eux.

Le tour a commencé par le site nommé “Beit Hadassah” qui fut le théâtre d’évènement dramatique d’Hebron. Visiter l’endroit où les colons juifs sont venus pour la première fois au région a éveillé encore le sionisme dans ce communauté. La population juive d’Hebron fut victime de nombreuses attaques au cours de son histoire. Durant le pogrom d’arabe de 1929, l’hôpital Beit Hadassah fut détruit et ses médecins fut assassinés.

Ensuite le groupe a investi les rues d’Hebron. Hatikvah fut chanté à la mémoire de nos patriarches. Cela valait la peine de voir 700 juifs entonnant l’hymne national et brandissant des dizaines des drapeaux frappé de l’étoile de David. Chaque membre du groupe l’a chanté avec ferveur pour montrer son soutien aux Juifs d’Hebron. Le groupe a marché dans les rues fièrement en jouant de la musique Israélite et en criant « Am Israël Chai! ».

Après avoir visité les Grottes de Patriarches, nous attendait un repas champêtre. Sur place, le Ministère des Infra-Structures Uzi Landau a parlé de a nécessité des activités sionistes en Eretz- Israel. Ministre Landau a affirmé que « Nous n’avons pas besoin de justifier notre présence sur ces terres. Le sol sur laquelle nous nous tenons est à Israël et à son peuple. » Il a insisté sur un point capital: « Nous ne devons pas expliquer notre présence dans les implantations juives pour des raisons sécuritaires. Notre présence est légitime car nos racines sont ici. »

Après l’évènement, Benjamin Kupfer a dit « J’ai reçu innombrable mercis. Vous pouvez voir sincèrement le vive émotion et le succès de la journée dans les visages des gens présents. » L’organisation de cet événement a dépassé l’attente des organisateurs. Tout le monde espèrent récidiver l’expérience l’année prochaine et Benjamin de rappeler la raison de ce visite à Hebron. Pour résister aux attaques persistantes, il est impératif de connaître nos droits sur notre terre. C’est important pour l’aspect religieuse et aussi politique. »

En tant que stagiaires en cours en Likud Mondial, nous avons senti le joie et le fièrtté que tout le monde ressentait ce jour là . Ceux qui étaient à Hebron avec le Likud-France ont dit que le nombre des participants augmente chaque année et ils espèrent que ça continue. Comme Joseph Betito a affirmé « L’atmosphère de ce jour là était extraordinaire. Nous faisons ce voyage chaque année et il est très satisfaisant de voir que le nombre de participants augmente toujours.

Over 700 French Zionists were led by Jacques Kupfer, CEO of Likud-France and his son, Benjamin Kupfer. The intense Zionist spirit and emotions of the group was to be seen and heard all over Hebron.

We first toured the “Beit Hadassah,” which is one of the oldest and most reverential sites in Hebron. To see the place where Jewish settlers first came to this region and see it still being used today was a mark of the strength of the Zionist community. These homes and clinic have been violently attacked multiple times in the past few decades, the attack in 1929 being one of the worst.

Following this tour, Hatikvah was sung in memorial of the patriarchs and matriarchs.

Seeing dozens of Israeli flags waving with the sound of Israel’s National Anthem in the background was truly a sight to see. Every single member of the tour sang fervently and loudly to show their support for the Jews in Hebron. The group proudly marched through the streets playing Israeli music and shouting; “Am Yisrael Chai!”

After a visit to the Cave of the Patriarchs, we went to hear the Minister of Infrastructure, Uzi Landau, speak about Likud and Zionist activities in the land of Israel. Minister Landau stated that, “we do not need justify our presence on this land. The ground we stand on belongs to Israel, and therefore to the people of Israel.” He wanted to make it clear that it is not only acceptable for Jews to live here, Jews have a legal and religious right to Hebron and the entirety of the land of Israel.

After the event, Benjamin Kupfer, said he, “received more thanks and congratulations than ever before. You could truly see the excitement and success of the day in the attendees faces.” The organization of this event exceeded everyone’s expectations, and because of this, many people are planning to attend next year. Benjamin just wanted everyone to remember why we are here, visiting Hebron. He said, “we need to remind ourselves that the reason we are here is because this is the land and the burial place of our patriarchs and matriarchs. It has both religious and political significance for us.”

As current interns at World Likud, we felt everyone was pleased and proud of how the day progressed. Those who have been to Hebron with Likud-France said the number of attendees has been increasing every year, and they hope to see it continue. As Joseph Betito, said, “The atmosphere of this day was extraordinary and filled with sentiment and emotion and that is why the number of attendees is increasing every year.”

This legislation, which calls for harsher treatment of Hamas terrorist prisoners was sparked by the unequal living conditions of Gilad Shalit and Hamas prisoners, has just been confirmed by the Knesset. Danny Danon wanted to put pressure on Palestinian forces by worsening the living conditions of Hamas prisoners, so hopefully, Gilad Shalit’s kidnappers will want to proceed with talks about his safe release.

The main reason for the bill, and the reason Danon initiated it, is that many terrorist organizations are kidnapping Israeli citizens and using them as bargaining chips, as in the case of Gilad Shalit. At the same time, members of those same terrorist organizations are sitting in Israeli prisons with visitation rights for friends and family members. This new bill will prevent terrorist prisoners from receiving visitors, except for those by an attorney or by the International Red Cross.

Danon personally feels the current situation is absurd. He says Hamas terrorists are receiving VIP treatment while Gilad Shalit is being held hostage, living in despicable conditions and something needed to be done about it.

The memorial service paid a great tribute to Jabotinsky’s many contributions to the Zionist movement. In addition to Jabotinsky’s family, the political turnout at this event was a clear indicator of the importance and strength of the Zionist movement in the current state of Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Peres, Knesset Speaker Rivlin, multiple ministers, MK Danny Danon, and members of the Betar movement were also in attendance. At the conclusion of the memorial service, wreaths were laid on behalf of the government departments and activist organizations.

It was truly amazing to see the interactions between some of the founders of the Zionist movement and the current Zionist leaders and activists. I personally felt a strong connection between the youngest members of Betar and Jabotinky’s original students, when they both participated in the wreath laying service. The culmination of past and future leaders was truly an unbelievable sight. The fact that the major political figures and leaders of the state of Israel were all there to participate in a tribute to one of the most revolutionary Zionists was a sight to see.

Here at World Likud, we try to follow the fundamental teachings of Jabotinsky. The Zionist spirit and willpower is essential for strengthening the state of Israel, and for making sure it remains the state of Israel.

The following are some of the main declarations made by World Likud at the 5th Annual Convention:

• World Likud’s main mission is to encourage the Aliyah of Jews from the Diaspora;

• Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish homeland for over 3,000 years and will remain the eternal capital of the people of Israel;

• Zionists are those who have made Aliyah to the land of Israel within the past 2,000 years with the goal of developing and building a Jewish homeland that operates by the guidelines of the Torah;

• World Likud supports the Israel Defense forces who risk their lives to protect the state of Israel;

• World Likud supports the advancement of the rehabilitation of people expelled from Gaza and strongly encourages the acquisition of land and homes in Judea and Samaria;

• World Likud calls upon a worldwide struggle with the international community to combat anti-Semitism and prevent it from spreading throughout the world;

• World Likud calls all the academic organizations that currently employ professors who spread anti-Israel propaganda to fire them;

• World Likud declares the only solution for Jewish people who suffer under anti-Semitism is to make Aliyah;

The intense atmosphere of the 5th World Likud Convention allowed delegates to debate the most important ideological issues in the state of Israel. Not only was this helpful in creating declarations, the Convention provided a detailed insight into the issues and developments of present-day Israel.

The July 6th, 2010 meeting of the two leaders went much more smoothly than last time. Many Israelis expected President Obama to urge Prime Minister Netanyahu to extend the settlement freeze in Judea and Samaria. MK Danny Danon has stated that he feels it is Netanyahu’s responsibility to tell Obama that it is the right of Jews to live in Jerusalem, and the world must respect these rights. Danon firmly believes that the Prime Minister must adhere to the right-wing Likud platforms, and make sure building will resume on September 26th in Judea and Samaria.

President Obama began by stating that he strongly believes direct peace talks must occur before the 10-month building freeze in the settlements is up. Obama said, “I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu wants peace. I think he is willing to take risks for peace.” In response, Netanyahu simply stated that measures are being taken to further the peace process.

MK Danny Danon believes Obama has realized that pressuring Israel does not work. Danon said, “Obama is wrong if he thinks the freeze must continue for direct talks to begin. He instead must pressure the Palestinians to come to the negotiating table, regardless of the freeze.”

After hearing the results of the meeting between the Prime Minister and President Obama, Danon feels slightly more optimistic. He was pleased that Obama never mentioned the word “extended” in reference to the freeze in Judea and Samaria, instead Obama specifically said, “when the freeze ends.”

The fact that Mr. Netanyahu was well received in the White House, especially after the controversial visit in March of this year, could indicate an improving relationship between the Obama administration and Israel. If a Zionist like MK Danon is optimistic about the outcome of this meeting, things may be taking a turn for the better.
